Based in Montreal, Quebec, but also covering Ottawa, Quebec City, Toronto, and the rest of Canada, I am an event photographer with over fifteen years experience.
I shoot every variety of corporate and commercial event: trade fairs, conferences, conventions, business meet-ups, gala dinners, brand activations, fashion shows, mixers and networking evenings, podium talks, performances, and more.
I have documented events for national and international brands and corporate entities, using a dynamic, documentary style that remains committed to my clients’ brand vision.

WHAT DO YOU NEED FROM YOUR EVENT PHOTOGRAPHER?
A huge amount of work goes into producing a successful event. You and your team might have spent months (or even years) planning and organising the experience you want to give your clients.
You’ve found the right venue, designed the event layout, furniture and decor, plus the lighting and branding materials. You’ve hired caterers, presenters and keynote speakers, maybe performers and musicians too. You have given the event variety, with breakout sessions, panel discussions, fireside chats, workshops, and possibly fun stuff like games areas or meditation rooms. You might have needed to apply for special permits for the event to even take place. You’ve worked out the technical and logistical components that will allow the event to be carried out smoothly. You’ve worked out a schedule.
Events are high pressure and often high stakes, so you need an experienced event photographer who understands this and can be trusted to show the fruits of all your hard work in the best possible light.
Someone who has the versatility and eye to photograph everything from the layout of the venue and the decorative details you’ve put in place, to the key presentations and the human moments in between.

MY APPROACH TO EVENT PHOTOGRAPHY
I follow the story of an event, capturing candid moments of people interacting, socialising, networking, experiencing the event, and sharing that experience with the other guests. My images are a series of natural moments, and looking at the photos afterwards will make you feel as if you were at the event yourself (if you weren’t able to attend), or if you were experiencing it again (if you were).

Should I bother hiring a professional event photographer?
Yes, you should.
A professional event photographer in Montreal (or elsewhere), will provide you with high-quality images perfect for a wide range of uses; internal communications, email campaigns, website blog posts, social media and other marketing campaigns.
Having good event photos is an excellent way to show how active your business is in its field, to highlight its involvement and achievements, and to provide stakeholders with up to date and vibrant imagery.

What do you focus on as an event photographer?
My priority is to photograph everything that’s in any brief I’m given and, beyond that, to document the location, the attendees interacting, and to also capture the smaller details like decor and branding.
What is your photographic style?
My background is in editorial photography, so I use a documentary-style that captures an event in a natural way.
Should I hire a photographer that specialises in event photography?
Shooting events, like any genre of photography, is a specialists’ game.
A photographer who specialises in event photography will have the exact equipment to carry out the job, and the experience that informs them how to approach an event.
An experienced event photographer is accustomed to the long hours and the fast pace, and knows how and when to interact with your team and the attendees.
An experienced event photographer knows how to follow and adapt to the flow of an event.
What sort of events do you cover?
All kinds.
I’ve shot small events, big events, trade fairs, conferences, networking events, sporting events, fashion shows, gala dinners, conventions and corporate meet-ups.
How do you handle low lighting situations?
That depends on the type of situation.
Some low-light situations need illuminating, and for that I use on-camera or off-camera flash.
But, if the low light is there for artistic reasons, or in situations flash shouldn’t be used (for example, during speeches and presentations), that’s no problem. I use mirrorless cameras which have amazing low-light capabilities, so I can comfortably shoot high-quality images even with very little available light.
Do you backup my images?
I shoot on cameras with dual SD-card slots, so your images are being backed-up automatically as I shoot.
Then, when I get home, I back them up again in two places, on two separate hard drives.
Do you have liability insurance?
Yes, I do. I have commercial liability insurance, so I’m covered for every eventuality. My equipment is fully insured too.
Do you provide videography services?
I work with some of the best videographers in the region, so if you need video of your event too, let me know, and I can also arrange that for you.
Who will be photographing my event?
Normally I will be. If you need more than one photographer (or a videographer), it’ll be me and one of my trusted associates.
On the occasion that I’m over-booked, I may get one of these associates to photograph your event, but I would let you know well in advance. Also, if that was the case, I would be taking personal care of the logistics and post-production of the images.
What are your rates?
Please contact me for my rates. I charge an hourly rate with a 3hr minimum, and I offer discounts for non-profits.
What is included in your hourly rate?
All of the photography, the license for usage, plus the post-processing I’ll need to do on your images in the days (and sometimes weeks) afterwards.
Do you charge travel fees?
If I need to travel, yes, I charge travel fees such as a plane or train ticket and accommodation.
How many different shots do you take?
I take a variety of shots from different angles, and I try to get creative where I can.
I need a variety to choose from when I get around to the edits, so that I ensure you’re going to get the best perspectives of your event.
How many images are included in your rate?
This is hard to say. Every event is different, some are quieter than others, some have a greater variety of activities.
What you can be sure of, though, is that you’ll get a good selection of images that showcase the breadth of your event, however big or small.
How do you choose which images are delivered?
First of all I cull any images that you won’t want. So, that means any that are out of focus, poorly lit images where, for example, my flash didn’t fire, and any with subjects whose eyes are closed (unless they’re meant to be) or who have unflattering facial expressions, etc.
I then pick the most dynamic photos that are most relevant to your event. Knowing which images to keep and which to discard is one way my years of experience comes in.
How much editing is included?
All the basic editing that will make your images pop is included in my rates. I do colour correction, work on contrast, clarity, make sure all the levels are right, and add some special sauce.
How much do you charge for additional editing?
I charge an hourly rate for advanced retouching, and that depends the extent of the changes you need, and how intensive the extra editing will be.
Which file formats do you provide?
I generally send high-resolution jpegs to my clients, and often low-resolution files that are optimized for web use.
In any case, whatever kinds of files you need, resolution and size, we’ll discuss it before the shoot to make sure you get exactly what you need.
